Frequently Asked Questions About Our Monument Services

  • Who handles the delivery or installation of memorial?

We will coordinate all aspects of your memorial delivery or installation.

  • How long will it take for my memorial to be delivered or installed?

Memorial orders can take anywhere from 8 weeks to 12 months + to complete depending on if the granite is in stock at our shop, needs to be ordered domestically or will be coming from overseas. Rush service is available for an additional fee in some cases. If a specific delivery date is important to you, be sure to notify your memorial specialist so they can guide you appropriately.

  • Are the designs, colors and text shown on your website interchangeable?

Yes! The photos shown on our website are just examples. You can intermix the colors, designs and text to create what you like best.

  • Do all cemeteries allow all types of memorials?

No, they do not. Many cemeteries have regulations regarding the size, style and sometimes even the color memorial you can have. Often these regulations vary by section and even by row within a certain cemetery. If you are not sure what will be allowed on your grave(s), call our office for assistance.

  • I want to use special artwork on the memorial that is not in your design catalog. Can you do that?

Absolutely! Just bring us a clear image of what you would like engraved. Some artwork may need to be modified to be depicted in a beautiful yet durable way due to being carved in stone.

  • What are your payment terms?

You are welcome to pay in full or leave a deposit. Most memorials require a deposit of 50% on the total of the memorial, sales tax and foundation fee before we will begin production. The balance is due upon completion. Interest-free payment plans are available on the balance of the memorial. We also offer a 12 month no interest payment plan. With this plan, we would not begin production until we have a 50% down payment. With this plan, we also ask that you continue to make payments during production. Preneed inscriptions are required to be paid in full to lock them in at today’s cost.

  • What is the difference between buying a headstone from you versus the cemetery, funeral home or online company?

Most cemeteries & funeral homes have a very limited selection of memorials to choose from and they subcontract all the design and production work to a third party. Online companies will often just ship you the memorial & you are responsible for finding a local monument company to install or deliver it to the cemetery. Most monument companies in our area will not install memorials from online companies. This is due to liability & experience. We have experienced these memorials coming in with mistakes or damage. At Monuments of St. Louis, memorials are our business. We have a large selection of granite colors for you to see and thousands of designs in our catalog to choose from. A lot of memorials are engraved at our own production facility and are inspected prior to delivery to ensure you will receive exactly what you ordered. A memorial is something you are only going to purchase once. Make sure you purchase wisely.

  • The cemetery has told me I have to purchase my memorial through them or they will not take care of it, etc. Is this right?

NO! It is very much illegal!! You and your family have the right to purchase a family memorial from anyone you like and have them install it on your property. If you encounter any high-pressure sales tactics or a number of high fees or permits do yourself a favor and leave. Go to a qualified MBNA dealer. You have numerous rights under Federal Consumer Protection Laws against these shady practices. Call us with any questions.

  • Do we need to wait any length of time after a death before purchasing a memorial?

The length of time needed after a death varies from family to family so there is no set time. Ordering a memorial for a loved one is a process and once placed, will remain there forever. Sometimes it is best to take your time and think about what you would like.

  • Why should I buy a memorial before I pass away?

We highly recommend Pre-need memorial stones. Designing and purchasing a memorial in advance makes the process easier and more enjoyable when you can personally create how people will remember you. After a death in the family, emotions can run high. A Pre-need memorial relieves loved ones of additional stress during the grieving process.

  • Do you stand behind your work?

Yes. Our granite is warrantied against manufacture defects. Also, our porcelain pictures have a separate unconditional lifetime warranty.  We also will straighten and level a memorial that we installed at no additional charge in most cases if it does happen to settle. The only thing we do not guarantee is Lithochrome and paint. With the monument being outside in the elements, the paint will fade just as anything outside would. Chances are it can be repainted for a reasonable charge.

  • My loved one was cremated. Do I still need a memorial?

Yes. Remember, you erect a monument to remember and commemorate their life. The choice of traditional burial vs. cremation really has nothing to do with it. We also have non-traditional memorials that can fit any budget.

  • I am not able to get around very well and I do not drive. Will you send a representative to my home to help me with the process of purchasing a memorial?

Yes! Also, we do a lot now by email if it is available to you.
